I think among the wicked and evil doers, hypocrites are the worst and hypocrisies are the most crafty means they engage themselves or cover up themselves in evil deeds. MANY ugly and useles people are on TV, and many ignorant and useles people are given platform.
Not everyone can play hypocrite and practice hypocrisy. You must be in power position and has resources. Lazarus, of Luke Chapter 16, even if he wanted, could never become a hypocrite and practice hypocrisy. The single groups who play hypocrites and practice hypocrisy are American Corporations. Of my career in America: I was always underemployed and underpaid, my supervirors were always White males who were less qualifed; one White supersivor when he hired me did not eve have a college degree. Fortunately, not one of my supervisors was Black. Black supervisors would be more crude and rude. One black employee got promoted simply a black vp spoke for him. In my case, I discovered something horrible about the HR. One HR threw away my master’s degree certificate for the reason when they were audited, they could defend themselves by saying the minority had only undergraduate degree. Of all departments of all corporations I had encountered, HR was the most unprofessional, incompetent, useless department. One HR even had the gall to ask me teach them how to formulate corporate policies and develop corporate procedures. To compensate my unjust situations, I had extra-curriculum activity, during my vacation I went to China to lecture on major Chinese universities invited by the Ministry of Education.
To illustrate how unfair American corporations can wield power over your life. I had a colleauge who was a Korean American who held CPA, not only her supervisor did not have a CPA, even the controller and vice president of finace did not have a CPA. Unless you are an America worker who has lived many years in America, you would not know the injustice practiced by American corporations.
Furthermore, I discovered something worse about American corporations. Working in the field of corporate policies and procedures enabled me to get to know not a few charimen, CEOs, presidents and executves. Many of them do not even know what management is. One vp called me and confessed he did not know the difference between policy and procedure. One vp accused of another corporsyion accused me of building an empire even he knew from formulation of corporate policies and development of corporate procedures, all writing, coordination, and publication were all done by one man operations.
Having pointed out injustice done by American corporations, it would be injustice if I did not mention Jim King. Jim King was a member of top management of a certain corporation, the vp of finance was under him. One day in his staff meeting (I was not a member) he announced that he appointed Wiillie Wong to head a corporate project, the vp of finance, controller and general manager were under his direction. Jim King had done something that even Dr. Harold Koontz might not hear about it. He put the line authorities under one staff specialist to undertake a corporate project. When the project was completed, he ordered to give a bonus of $2,000 while Uncle Sam took half of it.
1.) AS THE HYPOCRITES DO
Mat 6:2, “So when you give to the poor, do not sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, so that they will be praised by people. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full.”
Hypocrite in Greek is hypokritēs which means a dissembler, a pretender, a counterfeit, a deceiver, a stage-player; — which occurs 17 times in the New Testament. Hypocrites are who they are, what they do is hypocrisy.
Ellicott’s Commentary for English Readers
- Alms.—The history of the word is singularly interesting. In the original meaning of the Greek it was the quality of mercy, or rather of “mercifulness,” as something more complete. The practice of the Hellenistic Jews limited the word (eleemosyna) to money-gifts. It passed with this meaning untranslated into the language of Latin Christendom, and from that again into European languages, in various forms, “aumone,” “almose,” and at last the word of six syllables and rich fulness of meaning contracts and collapses into our modern English “alms.”
Do not sound a trumpet before thee.—Two conjectural interpretations have been given of the words:—It has been supposed (1) that the wealthy Pharisees had a trumpet literally blown before them, to give notice to the poor of the neighbourhood that they were distributing their alms; (2) that the words refer to the clang of the money as it fell into the metal trumpet-shaped alms-boxes which were found in the synagogue, a clang which came as sweet music to the ears of the purse-proud giver. But as regards (1), the best scholars have found no trace of any such practice in Jewish literature, and it is hardly credible that such a thing could have been done in the synagogues; and (2) seems hardly adequate to the active meaning of the verb. There is no reason, however, for taking the words so literally. The figure of speech which describes a vain man as being “his own trumpeter,” or making a “flourish of trumpets” about his own acts, has been, or might be. common in every country where trumpets have been used. What is meant is that, whether in the “offertories” of the synagogue or the alms given to beggars in the streets, there was a parade of benevolence which practically summoned men to gaze and admire.
As the hypocrites do.—Here again the word has a history of its own. Derived from a Greek verb which signifies answering, taking part in a dialogue, acting a part in a play, the noun in classical Greek was used simply for an actor, a man who plays a part. In one passage only in the LXX. version of the Old Testament (Job 36:13) it appears in the figurative sense of one who feigns a virtue which he has not. It thus lay ready for the wider use which the Evangelists have given it (it is not used by any writer of the New Testament except St. Matthew, St. Mark, and St. Luke), and passed with this new meaning, hardly altered in form, first into Latin and then into most of the languages of modern Europe.
The streets.—More strictly, the lanes or alleys of a city, as distinguished from the wider streets, properly so called, of Matthew 6:5; Matthew 12:19, and elsewhere.
They have their reward.—The Greek is more expressive: They have to the full, and so exhaust. There is nothing more for them to look for. They bargained for that praise of men, and they get it; but they sought not the honour that cometh of God only, and therefore He gives them none.
In Jesus time, the hypocrites did so terrible. They sounded a trumpet when they gave to the poor. Nowadays, the rich in America have foundations in their names. A charity can receive $100 and donate only $1 and still be counted as non-profit organization. I do not know how many organizations and individuals who enjoy charity status by claiming to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
This saying of Jesus was directed toward hypocrites,
Mat 6:3, “But when you give to the poor, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing”
2.) THE HYPOCRITES LOVE TO STAND AND PRAY IN THE SYNAGOGUES AND ON THE STREET CORNERS.
Mat 6:5, “And when you pray, you are not to be like the hypocrites; for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and on the street corners so that
they will be seen by people. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full.”
Our Saviour here cautions them against the same thing in prayer, as he had done before in giving alms, viz. hypocrisy and ostentation, doing this duty upon that design, merely to be taken notice of and applauded by men; it was lawful to pray
standing in the synagogues, but not to do it merely to be taken notice of by men for devout persons, nor yet to confine themselves to praying in the synagogues. If they chose to pray standing, that they might be more conspicuous, and in the synagogues, because those places were more holy, (as they might dream), or, which seems rather to be here meant, because there most people would see them, for which purpose only they chose corners of streets, as was the old popish custom upon which account they set up crosses at three way leets?, &c., these things were sinful: but to pray standing was usual, Mark 11:25; and to pray in the synagogues and in the temple standing was usual, Luke 18:13. But those who do it merely for vain glory
have their reward, and must expect none from God.”
One big motive of the hyprocites, whatever they do they do so that they will be seen by people.
3.) THE HYPOCRITES MAKE A GLOOMY FACE WHEN THEY ARE FASTING FOR THEY DISTORT THEIR FACES SO THAT THEY WILL BE NOTICED BY PEOPLE.
Mat 6:16, “Now whenever you fast, do not make a gloomy face as the hypocrites do, for they distort their faces so that they will be noticed by people when they are fasting. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full.”
Verses 16-18. – Matthew only. Verse 16. – Fasting. The third in the series of recognized religious duties (ver. 1, note). (On the prominence given to fasting, see ‘Psalms of Solomon,’ 3:9, with Ryle’s and James’s note, and Schurer, II. 2:118; cf. Matthew 9:14.) Observe
(1) Christ does not abolish it, but regulates it;
(2) yet fasting is mentioned much less often in the true text of the New Testament than in that which, developed contemporaneously with eccle-siasticism, became the Received Text. Be not as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance. The Revised Version, by inserting a comma between “not” and “as,” shows that the true emphasis of the warning lies, not on resemblance to the hypocrites themselves, but on being of a sad countenance, as in fact also the hypocrites were. The hypocrites (ver. 2, note; cf. also ‘Didache,’ § 8, “But let not your fasts be with the hypocrites,” where, however, the thought is rather of hypocrites as representing the Pharisaic, the typically Jewish party). The early Jewish Christians are bidden in the ‘Didache’ to avoid the fasting-days chosen by the Jews. Be not. Our Lord does not forbid even this sad countenance if it be, so to speak, natural; but do not, because you fast, therefore purposely become so (μὴ γίνεσθε), i.e. in sign of your supposed sorrow for sin (cf. Ecclus. 19:26). Of a sad countenance (σκυθρωποί); gloomy, especially- in knitting the brows. In Daniel 1:10 (Thee-dotion) used of merely physically bad looks (cf. ‘Test. XII. Patr.,’ § 4, of the look of a man whose liver is out of order). In the New Testament elsewhere only Luke 24:17, “And they stood still, looking sad,” Revised Version (cf. Genesis 40:7; Ecclus. 25:23). For they disfigure. The play on the words (ἀφανίζουσιν. . . ὅπως φανῶσιν, hardly to be reproduced in English,” They disfigure… that they may figure before men as fasting”) points to the ‘Gospel having been originally composed in Greek (see Introduction, p. 13.). It is curious that ἀφανίζω comes elsewhere in Matthew only in vers. 19, 20, while in the whole of the New Testament it only comes twice besides: Acts 13:41 (from the LXX.) and James 4:14 (ἀφανισμός, Hebrews 8:13). As ver. 19 is peculiar to Matthew, and ver. 20 is a corollary to it though in part found also in Luke 12:33, the whole passage vers. 16-20 is probably either due to the author of the First Gospel or else derived by him from some one source. In this connexion it may be noticed that κρυφαῖος comes in the New Testament only in ver. 18 (twice). Physical disfigurement, common in many nations as a sign of grief, such as tearing or marking the flesh, is not to be thought of, since this was forbidden (Leviticus 19:28; Deuteronomy 14:1). Ἀφανίζειν, too, has no such connotation, but rather hiding out of sight, hence causing to vanish, destroy (ver. 19); here, in the sense of giving a strange, unpleasant appearance, e.g. by ashes, or by not washing, or even by covering part of the face or the head (cf. Ezekiel 24:17; 2 Samuel 15:30; Esther 6:12). That they may appear unto men to fast; Revised Version, that they may be seen, etc.; i.e. not the mere appearance, as though there were appearance only, but the being seen as fasting – conspicuousness, not mere semblance. Hence νηστεύοντες is expressed (contrast ver. 5), since while in ver. 5 not the praying but the piety that induced it is to be made apparent, here it is the very fact itself of fasting, which, except for these external signs, might escape human notice. They have (ver. 2, note). Matthew 6:16.”
HYPOCRITES WANT TO BE SEEN SO THAT THEY WILL BE NOTICED BY PEOPLE.
4.) HYPOCRITES HONOR GOD WITH THEIR LIPS, BUT THEIR HEART IS FAR AWAY FROM GOD.
Mat 15:7-8, “You hypocrites, rightly did Isaiah
prophesy about you, by saying:
‘THIS PEOPLE HONORS ME WITH THEIR LIPS,
BUT THEIR HEART IS FAR AWAY FROM ME.”

This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth,…. The preface to these words, or the form in which they are introduced by the prophet; “wherefore the Lord said”, is left out in this citation, being unnecessary here, though of the greatest importance there; partly to show, that what was about to be said, was not the prophet’s own words, but the words of the Lord, of which the Jews in Christ’s time made no doubt; and partly to give a reason why that judicial blindness, threatened in the context, should be inflicted on them, which is no part of Christ’s design here; but which is only to show, that the description here given exactly agrees with them, and so proves, and confirms the character he gives of them as hypocrites. They approached the ordinances of God, and drew nigh to him, and attended him in outward worship; they prayed unto him publicly, and constantly, in the streets, in the synagogues, and temple, and with much seeming devotion and sanctity:
and honoureth me with their lips: they owned him to be their creator and preserver; they made their boast of him, and of their knowledge of him, as the one only living, and true God, and as the God of Israel; they brought their sacrifices of praise and thanksgiving, even the fruit of their lips, unto him, for their many peculiar mercies, privileges, and favours, as a nation, church, and people, and with much seeming sincerity and affection.
But their heart is far from me; they had no true love to God, nor faith in him, nor fear of him; they were not at all concerned for his presence with them, or for communion with him, or for his honour and glory; their hearts were in the world, and after their covetousness; they made religion a tool to their secular purposes, supposing gain to be godliness; sought the applause of men, and contented themselves with bodily exercise; having no regard to internal religion, powerful godliness, or where their hearts were, so be it, their bodies were presented to God in public worship; and what they did it was to be seen and approved of men, not caring what the searcher of hearts knew concerning them, or what he required of them.”
THIS IS WORSE, HYPOCRITES HONOR GOD WITH THEIR LIPS, BUT THEIR HEART IS FAR AWAY FROM GOD.
Mar 7:6, “But He said to them, “Rightly did Isaiah prophesy about you hypocrites, as it is written:
‘THIS PEOPLE HONORS ME WITH THEIR LIPS,
BUT THEIR HEART IS FAR AWAY FROM ME.”
5.) HYPOCRITES ARE TESTING JESUS WITH THEIR MALICE.
Mat 22:18, “But Jesus perceived their malice, and said, “Why are you testing Me, you hypocrites?”
Malice in Greek is ponēria which means depravity; plot; iniquity; wickedness; evil purposes and desires vicious disposition (Strong Concordance); — which occurs 7 times in the New Testament.
Jesus perceived their wickedness – This must have been done by his power of searching the heart, and proves that he was omniscient.
No more man has the power of discerning the motives of others.
Tempt ye me – Try me, or endeavor to lead me into difficulty by an insidious question.
Hypocrites – Dissemblers. Professing to be candid inquirers, when their only object was to lead into difficulty. See the notes at Matthew 6:2.”
6.) HYPOCRITES SHUT THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN, NOR DO THEY ALLOW THOSE WHO ARE ENTERING TO GO IN.
Mat 23:13, “But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, because you shut the kingdom of Heaven in front of people; for you do not enter it yourselves, nor do you allow those who are entering to go in.”
Our Saviour now cometh to denounce eight woes against the teachers of those times, the scribes and Pharisees. Luke saith, Luke 11:52, Woe unto you, lawyers! for ye have taken away the key of knowledge: ye enter not in yourselves, and them that were entering in ye hindered. It was written of old, that the priest’s lips should preserve knowledge: God hath committed the key of knowledge to the ministers and guides of his church, not that they should take it away, but that the people might seek the law at their mouths, because they are the messengers of the Lord of hosts, Malachi 2:7. Now saith our Saviour, you have taken it away: this Matthew calls a shutting up the kingdom of heaven against men; doing what in them lay to keep men from the knowledge of the mind and will of God, neither themselves teaching them the knowledge of God, which yet was their office and duty, nor suffering others to do it who would. You will neither go in yourselves, neither will you suffer them that are entering to go in. Yourselves are too proud or lazy, to preach the gospel, which is the way to the kingdom of heaven, and when others would, you suffer them not; nor yet will you suffer the people, who have a heart to it, to hear it. For this he calls them hypocrites seven times in this chapter, they pretending to be teachers and openers of the door to the kingdom of heaven, when indeed they did shut it; and denounces a woe to them, comprehending that ruin which soon after came upon them and their city by the Roman armies, and that eternal damnation which slept not, and was due to them. There are no worse men in the world than hypocrites, men pretending highly to God, yet neither themselves doing their duty in embracing the gospel, nor suffering others to do it, but doing what in them lie to hinder people from the means by which they might come to the kingdom of heaven.”
This is the worst what the hyporcrites do: They shut the kingdom of Heaven in front of people; for they do not enter it themselves, nor do they allow those who are entering to go in.
7.) HYPOCRITES MAKE ONE PROSELYTE AND MAKE HIM TWICE AS MUCH A SON OF HELL THAN THEMSELVES.
Mat 23:15, “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees,
hypocrites, because you travel around on sea and land to make one proselyte; and when he becomes one, you make him twice as much a son of Hell as yourselves.”
Ye compass sea and land – You take every means, spare no pains, to gain proselytes.
Proselyte – One that comes over from a foreign nation, religion, or sect to us – a convert. Among the Jews there were two kinds of proselytes:
- “Proselytes of righteousness,” or those who wholly and fully embraced the Jewish religion, who were baptized, who were circumcised, and who conformed to all the rites of the Mosaic institutions.
- “Proselytes of the gate,” or those who approved of the Jewish religion, renounced the pagan superstitions, and conformed to some of the rites of the Jews, but were not circumcised or baptized.
Twofold more the child of hell – That is, twice as bad. To be a child of hell was a Hebrew phrase, signifying to be deserving of hell, to be awfully wicked. Compare the notes at Matthew 1:1. The Jewish writers themselves say that the proselytes were “scabs of Israel,” and “hindered the coming of the Messiah” by their great wickedness. The Pharisees gained them either to swell their own numbers, or to make gain by extorting their money under various pretences; and when they had accomplished that, they took no pains to instruct them or to restrain them. They had renounced their superstition which had before somewhat restrained them, but the Pharisees had given them no religion in its place to restrain them, and they were consequently left to the full indulgence of their vices.
There are people twice as much as bad as hypocrites, they are the sons of Hell as hypocrites.
8.) HYPOCRITES TITHE MINT AND DILL AND CUMIN, HAVE NEGLECTED JUSTICE AND MERCY AND FAITHFULNESS.
Mat 23:23, “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees,
hypocrites! For you tithe mint and dill and cumin, and have neglected the weightier provisions of the Law: justice and mercy and faithfulness; but these are the things you should have done without neglecting the others.”
We have much the same Luke 11:42, only there it is, Ye tithe mint and rue and all manner of herbs, and pass over judgment and the love of God. It is manifest by our Saviour’s words in the latter part of the verse,
these ought ye to have done, that he doth not blame the Pharisees’ exactness in tithing mint, anise, rue, cummin, and all manner of herbs; but their neglecting the weightier matters of the law, faith and love to God, judgment and mercy. The Levites having no inheritance: God ordained tithes for their maintenance; of which also the poor were to have a share, Leviticus 27:30 Numbers 18:24. The Pharisee boasted, Luke 18:12, that he paid tithe of all he possessed. Christ here acknowledgeth that the Pharisees were exact in their paying tithes; but he blames them,
1. For their partiality, neglecting the weightier things of the law.
2. For their hypocrisy; they were only exact in these little things, that they might be taken notice of as scrupulous observers of the Divine law; while they omitted those things, which were of much more weight, which he reckoneth up: faith, by which some understand faith in God, but the most, faithfulness, and sincere and honest dealings with men, in opposition to fraud, and cheating, and circumventions.
Judgment, by which he means justice, giving to every one what is their own.
Mercy, by which he means a charitable behaviour, in helping such as are miserable and afflicted.
Love to God, which is the true root, out of which all things should flow, and is indeed comprehensive of all our duty toward God, as well as the root of all our good works towards men.”
THIS IS AN AWFUL TRUTH: IT IS POSSIBLE FOR ONE TO EXAGGERATE THE SMALL THINGS AND NEGLECT THE BIG THINGS.
9.) HYPOCRITES CLEAN THE OUTSIDE OF THE CUP AND OF THE DISH, BUT INSIDE THEY ARE FULL OF ROBBERY AND SELF-INDULGENCE.
Mat 23:25, “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees,
hypocrites! For you clean the outside of the cup and of the dish, but inside they are full of robbery and self-indulgence.”
This is the great hypocrisy of many leaders of undeveloped, unmotivated, insolvent and useless nations who practice deluded democracy and phony elections but neglect to produce food, water, and medicine — the basic necessities.
10.) HYPOCRITES ARE LIKE WHITEWASHED TOMBS WHICH ON THE OUTSIDE APPEAR BEAUTIFUL, BUT INSIDE THEY ARE FULL OF DEAD MEN’S BONES AND ALL UNCLENNESS.
Mat 23:27, “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees,
hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs
which on the outside appear beautiful, but inside
they are full of dead men’s bones and all
uncleanness.”
Verses 27, 28. – Seventh woe – against another form of the same hypocrisy (Luke 11:44). Whited (κεκονιαμένοις) sepulchres. Once a year, about the fifteenth of the month Adar, the Jews used to whitewash the tombs and the places where corpses were buried, partly out of respect for the dead, but chiefly in order to make them conspicuous, and thus to obviate the risk of persons incautiously contracting ceremonial defilement by touching or walking over them (Numbers 19:16). To such sepulchres our Lord compares these Pharisees, because their outwardly fair show concealed rottenness within (comp. Acts 23:3). Indeed, it might be said that their seeming exceptional purity was a warning of internal corruption, a sign post to point to hidden defilement. Obtrusive religiousness, emphatic scrupulosity, are marks of pride and self-righteousness, utterly alien from real devotion and holiness. Matthew 23:27.
Here is the comparison of what is on the outside and the inside. A wise man should not be fooled by the outside. I think the most dangerous is a beautiful woman with a rotten heart. There may be ten Delilahs and one Abigail. All men want beautiful women. Pro 11:22, “As a ring of gold in a pig’s snout so is a
beautiful woman who lacks discretion.” I discover there is vanity in beauty, but no beauty in vanity. The so-called beauty for miserable men is but sex appeal. An actress said, “If you’re given a choice between money and sex appeal, take the money. As you get older, the money will become your sex appeal.” This is the poor American culture that values power, money and sex.
11.) Hypocrites build the tombs for the prophets and decorate the monuments of the righteous.
Mat 23:29, “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees,
hypocrites! For you build the tombs for the prophets and decorate the monuments of the righteous.”

- Ye build the tombs . . .—Four conspicuous monuments of this kind are seen to the present day at the base of the Mount of Olives, in the so-called Valley of Jehoshaphat, the architecture of which, with its mixture of debased Doric and Egyptian, leads archæologists to assign them to the period of the Herodian dynasty. These may, therefore, well have been the very sepulchres of which our Lord spoke, and to which, it may be, He pointed. They bear at present the names of Zechariah, Absalom, Jehoshaphat, and St. James; but there is no evidence that these were given to them when they were built, and the narratives of earlier travellers vary in reporting them. It may be noticed, however, that of these four names, Zechariah is the only one that belonged to a prophet, and the reference to the death of a martyr-prophet of that name in Matthew 23:35, makes it probable that the name may have been, as it were, suggested by the monument on which the Pharisees were lavishing their wealth and their skill at the very time when they were about to imbrue their hands in the blood of One who was, even in the judgment of many of their own class, both a “prophet” and a “righteous” man.
Garnish.—Better, adorn—as, e.g., with columns, cornices, paintings, or bas-reliefs. Even these acts, natural and legitimate in themselves, were part of the “hypocrisy” or “unreality” of the Pharisees. They did not understand, and therefore could not rightly honour, the life of a prophet or just man. They might have learnt something from the saying of a teacher of their own in the Jerusalem Talmud, that “there is no need to adorn the sepulchres of the righteous, for their words are their monuments.” In somewhat of the same strain wrote the Roman historian: “As the faces of men are frail and perishable, so are the works of art that represent their faces; but the form of their character is eternal, and this we can retain in memory, and set forth to others, not by external matter and skill of art, but by our own character and acts” (Tacitus, Agricola, c. 46).”
Something I regret bitterly in my life. I wrote a letter to the Chinese paramount leader Deng Xiaoping. He was moved but he did not do as American and French Presidents did. The Chinese protocol was different. He called the Chinese General Consul in San Franciso to write a letter to thank me. If Deng Xiaoping wrote down his thoughts on modernization of China in a formal stationery of Zhongnanhai and signed his
own signature as President Nixon did; I would donate the letter to the Chinese government, to be framed in a lighted glass box and displayed at The Great Hall
of the People. It will be worth US$10 million dollars. This would be better than a marble monument for Deng Xiaping, because billions of Chinese and foreigners can visit Beijing and see the letter themselves. They will cherish the thoughts of Deng Xiaoping for generations to come. Don’t you agree?
12.) HYPOCRITES WILL BE THROWN INTO HELL WHERE THERE WILL BE WEEPING AND GNASHING OF TEETH.
Mat 24:51, “and He (THE MASTER) will cut him in two and assign him a place with the hypocrites; in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”
Shall cut him asunder – This kind of punishment was anciently practiced.
Sometimes it was done by the sword. sometimes by saws. It was practiced among the Chaldeans Daniel 2:5; Daniel 3:29, and among the Hebrews, 2 Samuel 12:31; 1 Samuel 15:33; 1 Kings 3:25; Hebrews 11:37. It was also practiced by the Egyptians and Romans. It is not, perhaps, here to be taken literally, but signifies that the wicked servant should be severely punished.
Hypocrites – See the notes at Matthew 6:2. They are spoken of here as the worst of people.
Weeping and gnashing of teeth – See the notes at Matthew 8:12-13. The unfaithful and wicked minister of God, who lives without expectation or fear of judgment, shall suffer the severest punishment inflicted on sinners in the world of woe.”
Mat 13:42, “and they will throw them into the Furnace
of Fire; in that place there will be weeping and

A word often used of the Scribes and Pharisees, and which suggests, that there were such in company, to whom Christ more especially directs his discourse; and this may be the rather thought, since much the like things are said by him to the Pharisees, with the Sadducees, in Matthew 16:1 and the same appellation is given them there, as here:
ye can discern the face of the sky, and of the earth; from the appearance of the sky, they could tell how it would be with the earth, and the inhabitants of it, whether they should have dry or wet weather, heat or cold:
but how is it that ye do not discern this time? that this is the time of the Messiah’s coming, and that it is the accepted time, and day of salvation, if ye receive him, and believe in him; and a time of vengeance, if ye reject him: this might have been discerned by the prophecies of the Old Testament, which fix the characters of the Messiah, and the time of his coming; and describe the manners of the men of that generation, in which he should come: and point out both their happiness and their ruin; as also by the doctrines they heard Christ preach, and especially by the miracles which were wrought by him, it might have been known he was come.”

14.) HYPOCRITES ON THE SABBATH UNTIE THEIR OXEN OR DONKIES FROM THE STALL AND LEAD THEM AWAY TO WATERING.
Luk 13:15, “But the Lord answered him and said,
“You hypocrites, does each of you on the Sabbath not untie his ox or donkey from the stall and lead it away to watering?”

15). OUTWARDLY APPEAR RIGHTEOUS TO PEOPLE, BUT INWARDLY YOU ARE FULL OF HYPOCRISY AND LAWLESSNESS.
Mat 23:28, “So you too, outwardly appear righteous to people, but inwardly you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness.”
Hypocrisy in Greek is hypokrisis which means dissimulation; dissembling or pretense (Strong’s Concordance); — which occurs 6 times in the New Testament.
Like unto whited sepulchres – For the construction of sepulchres, see the notes at Matthew 8:28. Those tombs were annually whitewashed to prevent the people from accidentally coming in contact with them as they went up to Jerusalem. This custom is still continued. Dr. Thomson (The Land and the Book, vol. i. p. 148) says, “I have been in places where this is repeated very often. The graves are kept clean and white as snow, a very striking emblem of those painted hypocrites, the Pharisees, beautiful without, but full of dead men’s bones and of all uncleanness within.” The law considered those persons unclean who had touched anything belonging to the dead, Numbers 19:16. Sepulchres were therefore often whitewashed, that they might be distinctly seen. Thus “whited,” they appeared beautiful; but within they contained the bones and corrupting bodies of the dead. So the Pharisees. Their outward conduct appeared well, but their hearts were full of hypocrisy, envy, pride, lust, and malice – suitably represented by the corruption within a whited tomb.”
THE GREATEST PRETENCE IS BETWEEN THE OUTWARD AND THE INWARD. TO KNOW THE INCONSISTENCY AND OPPOSITE IS TO BE MOST SHOCKING. A HUMAN BEING IS NOT WHAT HE APPEARS TO BE.
16.) BEWARE OF THE LEAVEN OF THE PHARISEES WHICH IS HYPOCRISY.
Luk 12:1, “Under these circumstances, after so many thousands of people had gathered together that they were stepping on one another, He began saying
to His disciples first of all, “Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.”
Leven in Greek is zymē which means metaph. of inveterate mental and moral corruption, viewed in its tendency to infect others; Leaven is applied to that substance which is small in quantity, yet thoroughly pervades a thing by its influence. The NT uses it in both a positive (cf. Mat 13:33) or negative sense (e.g., “a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump”) it explains of the teaching of the Pharisees, Luke, the passage cited more correctly [definitely?] of their hypocrisy. It is applied to that which, though small in quantity, yet by its influence thoroughly pervades a thing in a bad sense, of a pernicious influence, according to the various things to which it is applied, namely a single sin corrupts a whole church, 1 Corinthians 5:6; a slight inclination to error (respecting the necessity of circumcision) easily perverts the whole conception of faith, Galatians 5:9; but many interpretations explain the passage ‘even a few false teachers lead the whole church into error.’ (Strong’s Concordance);– which occues 13 times in the New Testament.
Verses 1-59. – The Lord, after leaving the Pharisee’s house, speaks at great length to a numerous crowd waiting for him, addressing his words principally to his own disciples. The foregoing scene (ch. 11.), when the Master addressed his bitter reproaches to the learned and cultivated of the great Pharisee party, took place in a private house belonging to an apparently wealthy member of this, the dominant class. The name of the large village or provincial town where all this happened is unknown. The crowd who had been listening to the great Teacher before he accepted the Pharisee’s invitation still lingered around the house. Many from the adjoining villages, hearing that Jesus was in this place and was publicly teaching, had arrived; so, when the Lord came out from the guest-chamber into the street or market-place, he found a vast crowd – literally, myriads of the multitude – waiting for him. The words descriptive of the crowd in ver. I indicate that a vast concourse was gathered together. His fame then was very great, though his popularity was on the wane. Verse 1. – Beware ye of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy. In dwelling on this and similar expressions used by our Lord in respect to the life and work of this famous section of the people who were generally so bitterly hostile to him and his teaching, we must not condemn their whole character with a condemnation more sweeping than the Master’s. Utterly mistaken in their views of life and in their estimate of God, whom they professed to know, our Lord here scarcely charges them with dell-berate hypocrisy. These mistaken men dreamed that they possessed a holiness which was never theirs; unconscious hypocrites they doubtless were, without possibly even suspecting it themselves. Luke 12:1.”
A PERNICIOUS DOCTRINE CAN CORRUPT MANY PEOPLE JUST LIKE A DROP OF BLACK INK CAN POLLUTE THE WHOLE GLASS OF WATER. JESUS WARNS, BEWARE OF THE LEVEN OF THE PHRISEES WHICH IS HYPOCRASY.
17.) LOVE MUST BE FREE OF HYPOCRISY.
Rom 12:9, “Love must be free of hypocrisy. Detest what is evil; cling to what is good.”
Hypocrisy is evil; truth is what is good.
Let love – The apostle proceeds to specify the duties of Christians in general, that they might secure the beauty and order of the church. The first which he specifies is love. This word here evidently refers to benevolence, or to good-will toward all mankind. In Romans 12:10 he specifies the duty of brotherly love; and there can be no doubt that he here refers to the benevolence which we ought to cherish toward all people. A similar distinction is found in 2 Peter 1:7, “And to brotherly-kindness add charity,” that is, benevolence, or good will, and kind feelings to others.
Without dissimulation – Without hypocrisy. Let it be sincere and unfeigned. Let it not consist in words or professions only, but let it be manifested in acts of kindness and in deeds of charity; 1 John 3:18; compare 1 Peter 1:22. Genuine benevolence is not what merely professes attachment, but which is evinced by acts of kindness and affection.
Abhor that which is evil – The word “abhor” means to hate; to turn from; to avoid. The word “evil” here has reference to malice, or unkindness, rather than to evil in general. The apostle is exhorting to love, or kindness; and between the direction to love all people, and the particular direction about brotherly love, he places this general direction to abhor what is evil; what is evil in relation to the subject under discussion, that is, malice or unkindness. The word “evil” is not infrequently used in this limited sense to denote some particular or special evil; Matthew 5:37, Matthew 5:39, etc.; compare Psalm 34:14; 2 Timothy 2:19; Psalm 97:10; 1 Thessalonians 5:22.
Cleave to that which is good – The word rendered “cleave” to denotes properly the act of gluing, or uniting firmly by glue. It is then used to denote a very firm adherence to an object; to be firmly united to it. Here it means that Christians should be firmly attached to what is good, and not separate or part from it. The good here referred to is particularly what pertains to benevolence – to all people, and especially to Christians. It should not be occasional only, or irregular; but it should be constant, active, decided.”
18.) THE HYPOCRISY OF LIARS SEARED IN THEIR CONSCIENCE AS WITH A BRANDING IRON.
1Ti 4:2, “by means of the hypocrisy of liars seared in their own conscience as with a branding iron.”

- Speaking lies in hypocrisy.—The Greek words here should be translated, through the hypocrisy of men that speak lies. The lies that these men utter, refer to their teaching that it was pleasing to the eye of the All-seeing Creator for men and women to avoid certain meats, and to abstain from marriage. Their hypocrisy consisted in their assumption of a mask of holiness, which holiness they considered was derived from their false asceticism and their abstinence from things which the Apostle proceeded to show were lawful.
Having their conscience seared with a hot iron.—Better rendered, Branded in their own con-science as with a hot iron. The image is drawn from the practice of branding slaves and certain criminals on their forehead with a mark. “Qua nota turpitudinis non inusta tua vita est?” (Cic. Cat. i. 6.) These men tried to teach the efficacy of a substitution of certain counsels of perfection in place of a faithful loving life. They based their teaching on wild Oriental speculations about the evil nature of all matter. They were often themselves evil-livers, who, conscious of their own stained, scarred lives, strove with a show of outward sanctity and hypocritical self-denial to beguile and to lead astray others, and in the end to make them as vile as themselves.”
LIAR’S CONSCIENCE CAN BE SEARED BY THE HYOOCRISY AS IF WITH A BRANDING IRON.
19.) THE WISDOM FROM ABOVE IS FREE OF HYPOCRISY.
Jas 3:17, But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peace-loving, gentle, reasonable, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial, free of hypocrisy.”
But the wisdom that is from above; true wisdom, which is of God, opposed to that which descendeth not from above, Jam 3:15.
Is first pure; either excluding mixture, and then it is opposed to hypocritical; or rather excluding filthiness, and then it is opposed to sensual, Jam 3:15, and implies freedom from the defilement of sin and error, it being the property of true wisdom to make men adhere both to truth and holiness.
Then peaceable; disposeth men to peace, both as to the making and keeping it, in opposition to strife and contention, which is the fruit of the earthly wisdom. Peaceableness, which relates to man, is set after purity, which respects God in the first place, to intimate, that purity must have the preference to peace. Our peace with men must always be with a salvo to our respects to God and holiness.
Gentle; or equal, or moderate, Philippians 4:5 1 Timothy 3:3 Titus 3:2. It implies that gentleness (as we translate it) whereby we bear with others’ infirmities, forgive injuries, interpret all things for the best, recede from our own right for peace sake; and is opposed to that austerity and rigidness in our practices and censures, which will bear with nothing in weak, dissenting, or offending brethren.
Easy to be entreated; easily persuadable. True wisdom makes men yield to good admonitions, good counsel, good reason. This is opposed to implacableness, Romans 1:31; pride, and obstinacy in evil, Proverbs 12:1 13:1.
Full of mercy; a grace whereby we pity others that are afflicted, or that offend, and is opposed to inhumanity and inexorableness.
And good fruits; beneficence, liberality, and all other offices of humanity, which proceed from mercy.
Without partiality; or, without judging, i.e. either a curious inquiring into the faults of others, to find matter for censures, which many times infers wrangling, as our margin renders it; or a discerning between person and person, upon carnal accounts, which is partiality, as it is here translated, and Jam 2:4.
And without hypocrisy; or, counterfeiting, as they do that judge others, being guilty of the same things, or as bad, themselves: or hypocrisy may be here added, to show that sincerity is the perfection of all the rest before named; purity, peace, and gentleness, &c., may be counterfeit; hypocrisy spoils all; and therefore the wisdom that is from above is sincere, and without hypocrisy.”
THE WISDOM OF THE WORLD IS CONTRARY TO THE WISDOM FROM ABOVE.
20.) RID YOURSELF ALL HYPOCRISIES.
1Pe 2:1, “Therefore, rid yourselves of all malice and all deceit and hypocrisy and envy and all slander.”
Wherefore laying aside – On the word rendered laying aside, see Romans 13:12; Ephesians 4:22, Ephesians 4:25; Colossians 3:8. The allusion is to putting off clothes; and the meaning is, that we are to cast off these things entirely; that is, we are no longer to practice them. The word “wherefore” (οὖν oun) refers to the reasonings in the first chapter. In view of the considerations stated there, we should renounce all evil.
All malice – All “evil,” (κακίαν kakian.) The word “malice” we commonly apply now to a particular kind of evil, denoting extreme enmity of heart, ill-will, a disposition to injure others without cause, from mere personal gratification, or from a spirit of revenge – Webster. The Greek word, however, includes evil of all kinds. See the notes at Romans 1:29. Compare Acts 8:22, where it is rendered wickedness, and 1 Corinthians 5:8; 1 Corinthians 14:20; Ephesians 4:31; Colossians 3:8; Titus 3:3.
And all guile – Deceit of all kinds. See the Romans 1:29 note; 2 Corinthians 12:16 note; 1 Thessalonians 2:3 note.
And hypocrisies – See the 1 Timothy 4:2, note; Matthew 23:28; Galatians 2:13, on the word rendered dissimulation. The word means, feigning to be what we are not; assuming a false appearance of religion; cloaking a wicked purpose under the appearance of piety.
And envies – Hatred of others on account of some excellency which they have, or something which they possess which we do not. See the notes at Romans 1:29.
And all evil speaking – Greek: “speaking against others.” This word (καταλαλιὰ katalalia) occurs only here and in 2 Corinthians 12:20, where it is rendered “backbitings.” It would include all unkind or slanderous speaking against others. This is by no means an uncommon fault in the world, and it is one of the designs of religion to guard against it. Religion teaches us to lay aside whatever guile, insincerity, and false appearances we may have acquired, and to put on the simple honesty and openness of children. We all acquire more or less of guile and insincerity in the course of life. We learn to conceal our sentiments and feelings, and almost unconsciously come to appear different from what we really are. It is not so with children. In the child, every emotion of the bosom appears as it is. “Nature there works well and beautifully.” Every emotion is expressed; every feeling of the heart is developed; and in the cheeks, the open eye, the joyous or sad countenance, we know all that there is in the bosom, as certainly as we know all that there is in the rose by its color and its fragrance. Now, it is one of the purposes of religion to bring us back to this state, and to strip off all the subterfuges which we may have acquired in life; and he in whom this effect is not accomplished has never been converted. A man that is characteristically deceitful, cunning, and crafty, cannot be a Christian. “Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven,” Matthew 18:3.”
I think the greatest hypocrisy is sinner pretending to be a righteous man, Luk 18:11, “The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, ‘God, I thank You that I am not like other men—extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this tax collector.”
The Bible says, All have sinned, there is no difference. So do not neglect so great a salvation. Repent of your sins and believe in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. You can do it now.

Peace 2025 is seriously flawed because mediating Arabs and terrorist Hamas released a few Israel hostages (not all) and some are dead. Hamas even released dead bodies who are not Jewish hostages. Hamas has reached the height of wickedness. People of evil relgion have no qualm to do any evil. Israel released nearly 2,000 Palestinian prisoners in good health. All murderous and abusive Hamas must be killed. Terrorists must be destroyed without mercy because they show mercy.
Peoples of undeveloped, violent, unmotivated, insolvent, useless nations should not access to world media, should not attend any international meeting, should not receive any international aid.
On October 1, 2025 I urge the Hong Kong government and people to start de-Britishlization of Hong Kong names of streets and roads. For example, Victoria Peak should be changed to Dengxiaping Peak; Queen’s Road should be changed to Maozedong Road, etc.
It is laughable that a black politician made a statement on TV, “Africa cannot develop without fossil fuel.” What Africa does not have, can make long laundry list. Years ago when China was poor and did not have anything. Did America and Europe give aid? In fact to these days they are the biggest enemies of China, oppressors, trouble makers, diplomatic obstructionists and military aggressors. In America, the elderlies have to make a choice between taking a meal and medications. They cost $25 each; to have a meal they cannot afford to have medications. The electric bills are so high, even though they have heaters and air conditioners, they die in Summer and Winter. Every year I lectured at major Chinese universities and vacationed in China for 3 weeks when I worked for an American corporation. I noticed my electric bill did not go down even I was out of the country for 3 weeks. The female representative of Edison Power had the gall to say they do not charge customers by usage.
Africa has done nothing to deserve a large coverage by world media. Civil wars, conflicts, protests and constant shortages should be ignored. Undeveloped nations have no hope because of their corrupt leaders and politicians, their peoples are lazy and unproductive. They glorify tribalism, barbarianism and primitive behavior. They dislike work, like games and sports although sports produce nothing. They have civil wars, conflicts, tensions, gangs and terrorists, violence, man-made and natural disasters. They eat and get fat, sing and dance, drink beer and have sex, produce so many unwanted children they cannot support. These useless, ugly, immoral and unworthy peoples do not deserve any humanitarian aid. Ten or more years from now they will get worse and worse.
Is there any future or hope for America when the President, the Congress and the Supreme Court do not uphold the law by deporting 45 million illegal aliens already residing in America on welfare and let hordes of unlawful migrants enter boldly and freely to ruin America???
This is the voice of an old dying American in the wilderness who does not seek money or power.
- The new President must attack Mexico militarily for violating American sovereignty, being the conduit of unlawful migrants for years AND drugs trafficking. Drop a few bombs on Mexico City may be a good start.
- Deport 45 million illegal aliens already residing in America and use military to prevent invasion of hordes of illegal migrants from entering the United States and reject all asylum seekers. Build walls and militarize the borders for safety and security.
- Mexico threatens loss of US 400,000 jobs, US by canceling NAFTA will cost Mexico 4 million jobs.
- Use military to repel unlawful migrants and shoot at migrants who cut the fence or destroy the wall.
- Withdraw support from Ukraine, END the war, and execute the Ukraine leader for war crimes and corruption.
- Enact the law to require citizenship to apply for welfare, and all welfare recipients must work to get benefits.
- Annihilate Iran, terrorists Hamas, Hezbollah, Houthis; and force Palestinians to evacuate from the Jewish lands and go to lands of Arabs.
- America has been playing the fool so long, of course America must be FIRST for America.
- Former imperialists and colonialists must pay compensations to their former colonies. African nations are big talkers but small doers. Africa must be self-sufficient and receive no aid.
- A nation has no reason to exist if it does not have water, food and fuel and basic infrastructure.
- It is strangest that UN, WHO, ICC (International Criminal Court) etc. Speak and Support terrorists HAMAS, HEZBOLLAH and HOUTHIS.
- It is a felony to harbor, hire or help unlawful migrants or illegal aliens.
Is there any future or hope for the world where the terrorists Hamas, Hezbollah and Houthis make demands and UN, WHO, EU, all Arab-Muslim-Black nations serve and support them willingly?
America and EU can change the world by changing course, cease all hostilities against Russia and China, like President Nixon sought a just and lasting peace for the world. I believe the overwhelming majority of Americans want this.
I propose the world to impose a moratorium of 20 years on the undeveloped, unproductive, insufficient and useless nations. No matter what internal conflict and tensions, civil war and war with neighbors, coups d’etat, famine, drought, or man-made disasters, the international community will not interfere. Moratorium means no communication, no diplomacy and no aid in whatever form. After 20-year of burning themselves out, many nations will vanish, and those who do well will survive. That is when the international community can help those nations who really want to become decent and respectable and responsible nations.
How to advance China’s modernization:
- Discard old belief of superstition, old practice of religion, old outlook of self-satisfaction, and old values of traditon by embracing new concept, new perspfective and new values of innovtion and technology.
- Stop all foreign aid because China does not have enough resoources to do modernized vital projects of its own.
- Restrict entry of all undersiable peoples and welcome the influx of overseas Chinese and their investment.
- Improve manufacture with only high qualify products and penalize fake goods and poor quality products.
- Eliminate corruption, organized crime, counterfeit currency, rumor, smuggling of any sort and monopoly and overchages of hospitals and doctors.
- Democracy is the greatest fraud perpetrated by the West in the world; China must not immitate the West but go its own way.
- Recruit 6-footers who have graduated from college into a new military school like West Point to be trained to become military leaders.
- Overhaul CGTN with respect to its ideology, personnel, programming and commercials. No liquor, cigarette, Western fake goods are allowed on TV.
- Ban uncivilized sports such as boxing, fencing, grand prix, and all body-hurt games.
- China has no need to save any underdeveloped, unmotivated, impoverished, and useless nations; China had need to save itself.
- Enhance nuclear weapons so that China in a superior position not threatened by any country.
- Improve military position toward neigboring hostile nations.
- Revitalize rural areas not only liberating from poor and backward situations but able to be independent economically, financially, and productively.
- Overhaul CGTN: scrap Africa, Latin America and Arab programs; forcus on China, Asia, America and Europe.
STRANGEST THINGS HAPPEN! 1. UN and most OF ITS MEMBERS ENDORSE THE TWO-STATE solution. UN-INSIDERS ARE WORSE THAN outsiders. NO ONE OPPOSES THIS. PALESTINIANS ARE ARABS WHO DO NOT WANT TO GO TO LANDS OF ARABS TO MAKE A LIVING AND BUILD ITS OWN PALESTINIAN STATE. The problem is the fact Palestinians want to build state of Palestinians in Jewish lands. 2. UN and all ARAB, MUSLIM, BLACK, EU nations do not say a word against TERRORISTS HAMAS, HAZBOLLAH, and HOUTHIS. NOT ONE DEMANDS HAMAS RELEASE OF HOSTAGES. INDEED, THEY SUPPORT TERRORISTS.
ARE DEPORTATION EFFORTS HURTING THE ECONOMY? WRONG QUESTION. RIGHT QUESTION: ARE ILLEGAL ALIENS HURTING AMERICA? Most of illegal aliens are on welfare, there are 45 million unlawful migrants already residing in America, including their children born in America who are not citizens. America needs to deport illegal aliens without further delay. To warn Mexico not to be an unlawful door for unlawful migrants to invade America, America needs to drop a few bombs on Mexico City to DETER them.
ON September 3, 2025 for China to mark 80th anniversary of victory over Japanese aggression and fascism is a historical necessity and hard-earned victory.
