*Our mission is to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ absolutely free. We do not want donation. We only want you to know the truth.

Miracles exist because God exists. Almost everything that God does is supernatural in nature. What is supernatural is miraculous in nature. We selected some Biblical miracles to understand the attributes of God.

1.) Exo 7:9, “When Pharaoh speaks to you, saying, ‘Work a miracle,‘ then you shall say to Aaron, ‘Take your staff and throw it down before Pharaoh, so that it may turn into a serpent.”

Ellicott’s Commentary for English Readers

Shew a miracle for you.—Pharaoh had perhaps heard of the miracles wrought by Aaron before the people of Israel (Exodus 4:30), and was curious to be an eye-witness of one, as was Herod Antipas (Luke 23:8). Or he may have thought that if Moses and Aaron “shewed a miracle,” his own magicians would be able to show greater ones, and he would then dismiss the brothers as charlatans and impostors. He certainly did hot intend to be influenced by any miracle which they might show, or to accept it as evidence that their message to him was a command from God.

Thy rod.—The rod is now called Aaron’s, because Moses had entrusted him with it. (Comp. Exodus 7:19, and Exodus 8:5; Exodus 8:16-17.)

A serpent.—Or, a snake. The word is not the same as that used in Exodus 4:3, but appears to be a synonym.”

) Exo 34:10, “Then God said, “Behold, I am going to make a covenant. Before all your people I will perform miracles which have not been produced in all the earth nor among any of the nations; and all the people among whom you live will see the working of the LORD, for it is a fearful thing that I am going to perform with you.”

Verse 10. – I make a covenant – i.e., “I lay down afresh the terms of the covenant between me and Israel.” On my part, I will go with them (implied, not expressed), and do miracles for them, and drive out the nations before them (vers. 10, 11), and enlarge their borders, and not allow their land to be invaded at the festival seasons (ver. 24): on their part, they must “observe that which I command them” (ver. 11). Marvels such as have not been done in all the earth. As the drying up of the Jordan (Joshua 3:16, 17); the falling down of the walls of Jericho (Joshua 6:20), the slaughter of the army of the five kings by hailstones (Joshua 10:11), and the like. It is a terrible thing that I will do with thee. Terrible, not to Israel, but to Israel’s enemies. Compare Deuteronomy 10:21; Psalm 106:22; Psalm 145:6, etc. Exodus 34:10.”

3.) Exo 3:20, “So I will reach out with My hand and strike Egypt with all My miracles which I shall do in the midst of it; and after that he will let you go.”

Verse 20. – I will stretch out my hand. To encourage Moses and the people, to support them in what was, humanly speaking, a most unequal contest, this important promise is made. It is a confirmation, and to some extent, an explanation of the pledge, already, given, “Certainly I will be with thee” (ver. 12). It shows how God would be with him – he would smite Egypt with all his wonders – what those would be was left obscure. He would come to his people’s aid, and openly assert himself, and afflict and strike terror into their enemies-until at last even Pharaoh’s stubborn spirit would be broken, and he would consent to let them go. Exodus 3:20.”

4.) Jos 3:5, “Then Joshua said to the people, “Consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the LORD will do miracles among you.”

Verse 5. – Sanctify yourselves. The Hithpahel, which is used here, is frequently used of ceremonial purification, as in Exodus 19:22; 1 Chronicles 15:12, 14; 2 Chronicles 5:11; and especially 2 Samuel 11:4. It is also connected with purification, but ironically, in Isaiah 66:17. Tomorrow. These words were uttered while all was in preparation. We learn from ver. 7, though it is not expressly stated, that the actual crossing took place the next day. We ought, probably, to place this verse in a parenthesis, and to translate “Joshua had said,” because the sanctification (see Exodus 19:10, 14) involved some definite period. Knobel, however, assumes, as usual, that there is at least a faulty arrangement here. Wonders, or rather, miracles, from פָלָא to separate, distinguish. They were, therefore, acts distinguished from the ordinary course of God’s providence. We may observe that, while among the Canaanites all was terror and confusion, m the camp of Joshua all was confidence and faith. “Either successe or discomfiture begins ever at the heart. A man’s inward disposition doth more than presage the event. If Satan see us once faint, he gives himselfe the day. There is no way to safety, but that our hearts be the last that shall yield” (Bp. Hall). Joshua 3:5.”

The right way to prepare for the mirales of God is to consecrate ourselves.

) Jdg 6:13, Then Gideon said to him, “O my lord, if the LORD is with us, why then has all this happened

to us? And where are all His miracles which our fathers told us about, saying, ‘Did the LORD not bring us up from Egypt?’ But now the LORD has abandoned us and handed us over to Midian.”

And Gideon said to him, oh my Lord,…. Taking him not to be an angel, but some illustrious and eminent person:

if the Lord be with us, why then is all this befallen us? all these troubles and calamities through the oppression of the Midianites; for he understood what was said to him in the salutation, respecting not himself personally and privately, but the people of Israel; and he could not tell how to reconcile the Lord’s being with them, and yet suffering such sad things to befall them they groaned under:

where be all his miracles which our fathers told us of, saying, did not the Lord bring us up from Egypt? when God was with his people, and brought them out of Egypt, he wrought miracles for them, whereby they were delivered out of their bondage; of this their fathers had assured them, but nothing of this kind was wrought for them now, and therefore there was no appearance of the Lord being with them, but all the contrary, as follows:

but now the Lord has forsaken us, and delivered us into the hand of the Midianites; and there was good reason for it, because they had forsaken the Lord, and worshipped the gods of the Amorites.”

IF WE ABANDONED THE LORD, THE LORD WILL ALSO ABANDONED US.

6.) Dan 4:3, “How great are His signs and how mighty

are His miracles! His Kingdom is an everlasting

Kingdom, and His Dominion is from generation to generation.”

How great are his signs! – How great and wonderful are the things by which he makes himself known in this manner! The allusion is doubtless to what had occurred to himself – the event by which a monarch of such state and power had been reduced to a condition so humble. With propriety he would regard this as a signal instance of the Divine interposition, and as adapted to give him an exalted view of the supremacy of the true God.

And how mighty are his wonders! – The wonderful events which he does; the things fitted to produce admiration and astonishment. Compare Psalm 72:18; Psalm 86:10; Isaiah 25:1.

His kingdom is an everlasting kingdom – Nebuchadnezzar was doubtless led to this reflection by what had occurred to him. He, the most mighty monarch then on earth, had seen that his throne had no stability; he had seen that God had power at his will to bring him down from his lofty seat, and to transfer his authority to other hands; and he was naturally led to reflect that the throne of God was the only one that was stable and permanent. He could not but be convinced that God reigned over all, and that his kingdom was not subject to the vicissitudes which occur in the kingdoms of this world. There have been few occurrences on the earth better adapted to teach this lesson than this.

And his dominion is from generation to generation – That is, it is perpetual. It is not liable to be arrested as that of man is, by death; it does not pass over from one family to another as an earthly scepter often does. The same scepter; the same system of laws; the same providential arrangements; the same methods of reward and punishment, have always existed under his government, and will continue to do so to the end of time. There is, perhaps, no more sublime view that can be taken of the government of God than this. All earthly princes die; all authority lodged in the hands of an earthly monarch is soon withdrawn. No one is so mighty that he can prolong his own reign; and no one can make his own authority extend to the next generation. Earthly governments, therefore, however mighty, are of short duration; and history is made up of the records of a great number of such administrations, many of them exceedingly brief, and of very various character. The scepter falls from the hand of the monarch, never to be resumed by him again; another grasps it to retain it also but a little time, and then he passes away. But the dominion of God is in all generations the same. This generation is under the government of the same Sovereign who reigned when Semiramis or Numa lived; and though the scepter has long since fallen from the hands of Alexander and the Caesars, yet the same God who ruled in their age is still on the throne.

7.) Psa 105:27, “They performed His wondrous acts

among them, and miracles in the land of Ham.”

They showed his signs among them,…. The Egyptians to whom they were sent; that is, Moses and Aaron did. In the original it is, “the words of his signs” (x). They declared the words of God to them, that he would do such signs and wonders among them; or inflict such plagues upon them, in case they did not let Israel go: or they performed them according to the word of the Lord, as he commanded them, as well as taught the doctrines and instructions to be learned from them. The Septuagint and Vulgate Latin versions render it in the singular number, though contrary to the Hebrew text, and understand it of God, “he put the words of his signs in them”; in Moses and Aaron; or gave them orders and power to perform them: he put them “in both”, as the Arabic version has it; or, “he did his signs by them”, as the Syriac version.

And wonders in the land of Ham; or Egypt, as in Psalm 105:23, meaning the miracles of the plagues, which are next particularly mentioned, though not all of them: the plagues of the murrain, and of the boils and blains, are omitted; the reason of which, according to Aben Ezra, is, because Pharaoh did not seek to Moses to remove them; and the other eight that are mentioned are not placed in the order in which they were done, the last but one being observed first.”

8.) Dan 4:2, “I am pleased to declare the signs and

miracles that the Most High God has done for me.”

Barnes’ Notes on the Bible

I thought it good – Margin, “it was seemly before me.” The marginal reading is more in accordance with the original (קדמי שׁפר shephar qâdâmay). The proper meaning of the Chaldee word (שׁפר shephar) is, to be fair or beautiful; and the sense here is, that it seemed to him to be appropriate or becoming to make this public proclamation. It was fit and right that what God had done to him should be proclaimed to all nations.

To show the signs and wonders – Signs and wonders, as denoting mighty miracles, are not unfrequently connected in the Scriptures. See Exodus 7:3; Deuteronomy 4:34; Deuteronomy 13:1; Deuteronomy 34:11; Isaiah 8:18; Jeremiah 32:20. The word rendered “signs” (Hebrew: אות ‘ôth – Chaldee: את ‘âth) means, properly, “a sign,” as something significant, or something that points out or designates anything; as Genesis 1:14, “shall be for “signs” and for seasons;” that is, signs of seasons. Then the word denotes an ensign, a military flag, Numbers 2:2; then a sign of something past, a token or remembrancer, Exodus 13:9, Exodus 13:16; Deuteronomy 6:8; then a sign of something future, a portent, an omen, Isaiah 8:18; then a sign or token of what is visible, as circumcision, Genesis 17:11, or the rainbow in the cloud, as a token of the covenant which God made with man, Genesis 9:12; then anything which serves as a sign or proof of the fulfillment of prophecy, Exodus 3:12; 1 Samuel 2:34; and then it refers to anything which is a sign or proof of Divine power, Deuteronomy 4:34; Deuteronomy 6:22; Deuteronomy 7:19, “et al.”

The Hebrew word is commonly rendered “signs,” but it is also rendered “token, ensign, miracles.” As applied to what God does, it seems to be used in the sense of anything that is significant of his presence and power; anything that shall manifestly show that, what occurs is done by him; anything that is beyond human ability, and that makes known the being and the perfections of God by a direct and extraordinary manifestation. Here the meaning is, that what was done in so remarkable a manner was significant of the agency of God; it was what demonstrated that he exists, and that showed his greatness. The word rendered “wonders” (תמה temahh) means, properly, what is fitted to produce astonishment, or to lead one to wonder, and is applied to miracles as adapted to produce that effect. It refers to that state of mind which exists where anything occurs out of the ordinary course of nature, or which indicates supernatural power. The Hebrew word rendered “wonders” is often used to denote miracles, Exodus 3:20; Exodus 7:3; Exodus 11:9; Deuteronomy 6:22, “et al.” The meaning here is, that what had occurred was fitted to excite amazement, and to lead men to wonder at the mighty works of God.

That the high God – The God who is exalted, or lifted up; that is, the God who is above all. See Daniel 3:26. It is an appellation which would be given to God as the Supreme Being. The Greek translation of this verse is, “And now I show unto you the deeds – πράξεις praxeis – which the great God has done unto me, for it seemed good to me to show to you and your wise men” – τοῖς σοφισταῖς ὑμῶν tois sophistais humōn.”

9.) Dan 6:27, “He rescues, saves, and performs signs

and miracles in Heaven and on earth, He who has

also rescued Daniel from the power of the lions.”

He delivereth and rescueth….. As he did the three companions of Daniel from the fiery furnace, and now Daniel himself from the lions’ den:

and he worketh signs and wonders in heaven and in earth; which are out of the common course of nature, and not according to the laws of it; such as hindering the natural force of fire from burning, as in the case of the three children; and stopping the mouths of lions from devouring Daniel as follows:

who hath delivered Daniel from the power of the lions; or “from the hand” (r) of them; from their destroying paws, and devouring jaws; which was nothing less than a miracle, and a proof of the divine omnipotence and of his power of doing wonders.”

THE POWER OF GOD’S MIRACLES IS TO RESCUE AND SAVE.

10.) Mat 7:22, “Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform

many miracles?”

This is most shocking: false preachers can preach in Jesus’ name, cast out demons, and perform many miracles.

Benson Commentary

Matthew 7:22-23. Many will say to me in that day — Many, both preachers and hearers, both ministers and people, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? — Have we not declared the mysteries of thy kingdom; preached excellent sermons; written edifying books; explained and enforced the doctrines of thy word, even the prophecies thereof, and shown their fulfilment: nay, have we not ourselves foretold future events, and in thy name have cast out devils — From those possessed by them, and done many wonderful works — Even miracles of mercy as well as of judgment? Then will I profess unto them, I never knew you — Though I called you to be my servants, and you professed yourselves such, I never knew you to be such, nor approved of you. So that even the working of the greatest miracles, and the uttering the most undoubted prophecies, is not a sufficient proof that a man possesses saving faith, nor will any thing of that kind avail to prove that we are now accepted of God, or are in the way to meet with acceptance of him at the day of final accounts, without the faith productive of true and universal holiness. Depart from me, ye that work iniquity — For none can enter heaven but those that are saved from their sins on earth. If we die in our sins, where Jesus is we cannot come.”

All the preachers I have known, true and false, a couple false preachers can cast out demons, none can perform miracles. The false couple raised all the mission money to educate their children to master’s degrees in America (not one penny shared for the education of his poor missionaries); and the founder of the mission ate chicken only got the juice and spat out the meat — while children of poor missionaries never taste chichken for many months.

It is possible that false preachers preach the Gospel and Jesus says He never knew them.

11.) Mar 6:5, “And He could not do any miracle

there except that He laid His hands on a few sick

people and healed them.”

Verses 5, 6. – And he could there do no mighty work. This is a remarkable expression. He could do no mighty work there. The words imply want of power – that in some sense or other he was unable to do it. He did indeed perform some miracles. He laid his hands upon a few sick folk, and healed them; but he wrought none of his greater miracles there. Of course, even these less striking miracles ought to have sufficed. in a miracle there must be the suspension of some known law of nature; and one clear instance of such suspension ought to be as conclusive as a hundred. Then it must be remembered that it is not God’s method in his dealings with his creatures to force conviction upon them when the ordinary means prove insufficient. For men’s actions must be free if they are to be made the test of judgment, and they would not be free if God constrained men to obey his will. The men of Nazareth had sufficient evidence had they not chosen to be blinded, and a greater amount of evidence would only have increased their condemnation. So their unbelief thwarted his purposes of mercy, and he went in and out amongst them like one hampered and disabled, marvelling at their unbelief, or rather marveling because of their unbelief (διὰ τὴν ἀπιστίαν αὐτῶν). The condition of mind of these Nazarenes was what caused amazement to the Saviour. At length he turned away from Nazareth, never, so far as we know, to visit it again; for this was their second opportunity, and the second occasion which they deliberately rejected him. What, however, they refused he immediately offered to others. He was not discouraged. He went round about the villages teaching. Mark 6:5.”

Unbelief is an obstruction to God doing His mighty work.

12.) Act 4:16, “saying, “What are we to do with these men? For the fact that a noteworthy miracle has taken place through them is apparent to all who live in Jerusalem, and we cannot deny it.”

manifest to all them that dwell in Jerusalem] Because all the inhabitants knew the beggar at the Temple-gate, and that he had been lame all his life. There could only be two grounds on which, in reference to the cure of the cripple, the Apostles could be worthy of punishment: (1) If it were a case of imposture, but this nobody in the council or anywhere else insinuated, or (2) if the miracle had been wrought by some unlawful agency (Deuteronomy 13). The question of the Sanhedrin points in this direction, “By what power have ye done this?” But Peter from the first (Acts 3:13) had ascribed the miracle to the “God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob,” and again testifies that it is God through Jesus Christ that hath made the man whole. So that there was no charge possible on the second ground.”

Turth is most powerful, no one can deny it.

13.) Mat 11:20, “Then He began to reprimand the cities in which most of His miracles were done, because they did not repent.”

Most shocking fact is that miracles do not cause people to believe and repent.

Benson Commentary

Matthew 11:20-24. Then began he to upbraid the cities — Which he had often blessed with his presence, and in which he had preached many awakening sermons, and performed many astonishing miracles. It is observable, he had never upbraided them before. Indeed, at first they had received him with all gladness, Capernaum in particular. Wo unto thee, Chorazin, &c. — That is, miserable art thou. For these are not curses or imprecations, as has been commonly supposed; but a solemn, compassionate declaration of the misery they were bringing on themselves. Chorazin and Bethsaida were cities of Galilee, standing by the lake of Gennesareth, in which and the neighbouring places Jesus spent a great part of his public life. See notes on chap. Matthew 4:13-16. If the mighty works — The great miracles, which were done in you, had been done [of old] in Tyre and Sidon — Though cities inhabited by heathen, and remarkable for their luxury, pride, and contempt of religion, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes — That is, they would have exercised the deepest repentance, for sackcloth and ashes were used by the Jews in token of the bitterest grief. But I say unto you — Besides this general denunciation of wo to those stubborn unbelievers, I declare particularly that the degree of their misery will be greater than even that of Tyre and Sidon, yea, of Sodom. And thou, Capernaum, &c. — He mentions Capernaum separately by itself, and last of all, because, being the place of his ordinary residence, it had been blessed with more of his sermons and miracles than any other town. Nevertheless it abounded with wickedness of all kinds, and therefore he compared it to that city which, on account of the greatness of its crimes, had been the most terrible example of the divine displeasure that ever the world had beheld. It shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom, &c. — That is, the condition of the inhabitants even of the land of Sodom, in the day of the final judgment, shall be more tolerable than thy condition. For thy condemnation shall rise in proportion to thy more aggravated guilt, and to those more valuable mercies and privileges which thou hast abused. Dr. Hammond understands this passage as referring to the temporal calamities to come on those places by the Romans; who did indeed shortly after overrun the whole country, and made dreadful ravages in some of those cities. But, as Doddridge justly observes, “There is no evidence that the destruction of those cities was more dreadful than that of Tyre and Sidon, and it was certainly less so than that of Sodom and Gomorrah: besides, our Lord plainly speaks of a judgment that was yet to come on all these places that he mentions.” From this passage, therefore, we learn “two important particulars: 1st, That the punishments to be inflicted upon wicked men in the life to come shall not be all equal, but in exact proportion to the demerit of the sins of each. 2d, That great and signal punishments, befalling sinners in this life, will not screen them from the wrath of God in the life to come; for Jesus Christ, the judge, here declares that Sodom, though burned by fire and brimstone from heaven, shall suffer such dreadful things, that, in speaking of the pains of the damned, he mentions this city as an example of very great punishment.” — Macknight.”

14.) Mar 6:2, “And when the Sabbath came, He began to teach in the synagogue; and the many

listeners were astonished, saying, “Where did this Man learn these things, and what is this wisdom

that has been given to Him, and such miracles as

these performed by His hands?”

he began to teach in the synagogue] For his former visit here see Luke 4:6 sq. The conduct of His hearers on this occasion did not betray the frantic violence exhibited at His first visit.
mighty works] Rather, powers. This is one of the four names given by the Evangelists to the miracles which the Lord was pleased to work while incarnate here on earth. They are called:
(α) “Wonders,” a term never used alone, but always in conjunction with other names. They are continually styled “signs and wonders,” or “signs” or “powers” alone, but never “wonders” alone. By this word the effect of astonishment, which the work produces on the beholder, is transferred to the work itself. The word only occurs once in St Mark, in Mark 13:22, and there it is in conjunction with “signs.”
(β) “Signs,” as being tokens and indications of something beyond themselves, of the near presence and working of God, the seals and credentials of a higher power. The word is an especial favourite with St John, though in our Version “sign” too often gives place to the vaguer “miracle,” to the great detriment of the true meaning and force of the word. It occurs three times in St John, twice in St Mark 16:17; Mark 16:20 alone, and once in conjunction with “wonders,” Mark 13:22.
(γ) “Powers,” that is of God, coming into and working in this world of ours. As in the “wonder” the effect is transferred and gives a name to the cause, so here the cause gives its name to the effect. The word occurs four times in St Mark: Mark 5:30 (A. V. virtue), Mark 6:2; Mark 6:14; Mark 9:39. In our Version it is rendered sometimes “wonderful works” (Matthew 7:22), sometimes “mighty works” (Matthew 11:20; Mark 6:14; Luke 10:13), and still more frequently “miracles” (Acts 2:22; Acts 19:11; Galatians 3:5), thus doing away with a portion of its force.
(δ) “Works.” This is a significant term very frequently used by St John. With him miracles are the natural form of working for Him, whose Name is Wonderful (Isaiah 9:6), and Who therefore doeth “works of wonder.” Comp. John 6:28; John 7:21; John 10:25; John 10:32; John 10:38; John 14:11, &c. See Abp. Trench on the Parables, Introd.”

15.) Luk 19:37, “And as soon as He was approaching, near the descent of the Mount of Olives, the whole crowd of the disciples began to praise God joyfully with a loud voice for all the miracles which

they had seen.”

Verse 37. – At the descent of the mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works that they had seen. At this point on the Bethany road the city of Jerusalem comes into view. Here a crowd of pilgrims to the Passover Feast, many of whom were well acquainted with Jesus, came out to meet and welcome him with their branches of palm. These joined his friends who accompanied him from Bethany. This enthusiasm was excited among the Passover pilgrims in great measure owing to the report which by this time had got abroad of the raising of Lazarus (see John 12:17, 18). Many had already gone out from the city to Bethany to see Jesus and Lazarus. Of the Messianic shouts of welcome which sounded in the crowd, St. Luke does not mention the “Hosanna!” of St. Matthew, no doubt because this peculiar Hebrew cry would not have conveyed any meaning to the Gentile readers to whom his story was especially addressed. The two incidents which follow – the crying out of the stones, and the weeping of the Master over his beautiful doomed city (vers. 39-44) – occur only in St. Luke. His source of information here was evidently quite different to the other two synoptists or St. John. Luke 19:37.”

16.) 2Co 12:12, “The distinguishing marks of a true apostle were performed among you with all

perseverance, by signs, wonders, and miracles.”

Benson Commentary

2 Corinthians 12:12-13. Truly the signs of an apostle — The signs whereby a person was known to be an apostle, were his performing great and evident miracles openly in the view of the world, especially his healing diseases, his casting out devils, and his speaking foreign languages. But the greatest of all the signs was his conveying spiritual gifts to them who believed; a power which none possessed but the apostles. All these signs St. Paul having exhibited at Corinth, and in particular having communicated the spiritual gifts to many of the Corinthians, he, on account thereof, called them, in his former letter, the seal of his apostleship, 1 Corinthians 9:2. In all patience — Under my various sufferings, and in the midst of the unreasonable opposition I have met with. By mentioning his patience, the apostle brought to the remembrance of the Corinthians the hardships which he had endured while he executed his office among them, and supported himself by his own labour; as also the persecutions which he had suffered before he first visited them, namely, in the Lesser Asia and in Macedonia, of which they had undoubtedly received information from himself or others. Perhaps likewise, as Locke supposes, there is here an oblique reproof to the false teachers, for the luxury and ease with which they were living among the Corinthians. In signs, and wonders, and mighty deeds — The effects of divine and supernatural power. For what is it — What is the spiritual gift or privilege; wherein ye were inferior to other churches — Planted by the other apostles? Except that I was not burdensome to you — In respect of maintenance, as the other apostles have been to the churches which they planted. Forgive me this wrong — As if he had said, If it be a wrong, I know you will easily pardon it.”

Barnes’ Notes on the Bible

God also bearing them witness – By miracles. Giving them the sanction of his authority, or showing that they were sent by him. No man can work a miracle by his own power. When the dead are raised, the deaf made to hear and the blind to see by a word, it is the power of God alone that does it. He thus becomes a “witness” to the divine appointment of him by whose instrumentality the miracle is performed; or furnishes an attestation that what he says is true; see notes on Acts 14:3.

With signs and wonders. – These words are usually connected in the New Testament. The word rendered “signs” – σημεῖον sēmeion – means any miraculous event that is suited to show that what had been predicted by a prophet would certainly take place; see Matthew 12:38; compare note on Isaiah 7:11. A “wonder” – τέρας teras – denotes a portent, or prodigy – something that is suited to excite wonder or amazement – and hence, a miracle. The words together refer to the various miracles which were performed by the Lord Jesus and his apostles, designed to confirm the truth of the Christian religion.

And with divers miracles. – Various miracles, such as healing the sick, raising the dead, etc. The miracles were not of one class merely, but were various, so that all pretence of deception should be taken away.

And gifts of the Holy Ghost. – Margin, “Distributions.” The various influences of the Holy Spirit enabling them to speak different languages, and to perform works beyond the power of man; see notes on 1 Corinthians 12:4-11.

According to his will – As he chose. He acted as a sovereign in this. He gave them where he pleased, and imparted them in such measure as he chose. The sense of this whole passage is, “The gospel has been promulgated to man in a solemn manner. It was first published by the Lord of glory himself. It was confirmed by the most impressive and solemn miracles. It is undoubtedly a revelation from heaven; was given in more solemn circumstances than the Law of Moses, and its threatenings are more to be dreaded than those of the Law. Beware, therefore, how you trifle with it, or disregard it. It cannot be neglected with safety; its neglect or rejection must be attended with condemnation.”

18.) 1Co 12:28, “And God has appointed in the Church, first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, administrations, and various kinds of tongues.”

1 Corinthians 12:28-31. And God hath set in the church first apostles — Who planted the gospel in the heathen nations, being honoured with an office of the highest distinction, and furnished with endowments peculiar to themselves; secondly, prophets — Who either foretold things to come, or spake by extraordinary inspiration for the edification of the church; thirdly, teachers — Of an inferior class. Under prophets and teachers, are comprised evangelists and pastors. After that, miracles — Persons endowed on some particular occasions with miraculous powers; then gifts of healing — Diseases, by anointing the sick with oil, and praying for their recovery: the expression denotes the persons who possessed these gifts. Helps — Or helpers, who, speaking by inspiration to the edification of the church, were fitted to assist the superior officers, and to help the faith and joy of others. Governments — Or governors, the thing performed, as in the former clause, being put for the persons who performed it. The word κυβερνησεις, is properly the steering of a ship with skill by a pilot; and seems to be put here metaphorically for persons directing or managing affairs with judgment. It does not appear, however, that these two last expressions were intended by the apostle to signify distinct offices. Rather any persons might be called helps or helpers, from a particular dexterity in helping the distressed; and governors or governments, from a peculiar talent for governing or presiding in assemblies. Are all the members or ministers of the church apostles, &c. — Seeing God has not given all sorts of gifts to one, but some to one, and others to another, that each one might stand in need of the others; therefore let none despise another, but all join together in employing their gifts for the common good of the church. But covet earnestly the best gifts — For they are well worth your desire and pursuit, though but few of you can attain them; and yet I show you a more excellent way — I point out unto you a more excellent gift than any or all of them, and one which all may, yea, must attain, or perish.”

19.) Act 2:22, “Men of Israel, listen to these words: Jesus the Nazarene, a Man attested to you by God with miracles and wonders and signs which God performed through Him in your midst, just as you yourselves know—”

Jesus the Nazarene was a Man attested to us by God with miracles and wonders and sign which God performed through Him.

Attest in Greek is apodeiknymi which means to demonstrate; show off; prove; declare what kind of a person anyone is (Strong’s Concordance); — which occurs 4 times in the New Testament.

God attested Jesus Christ with miracles and wonders and signs.

Miracle in Greek is dynamis which means power in action; might; the power of God; divine intervention; power for performing miracles (Strong’s Concordance); — which occurs 119 times in the New Testament.

Sign in Greek is sēmeion which means an indication; that by which a person or a thing is distinguished from others and known (Strong’s Concordance); — which occurs 77 times in the New Testament A sign may and may not be a miracle. For example, circumcision is a sign of the covenant formed with God. But circumcision is neither a wonder nor a miracle.

Isa 7:14, “Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin will conceive and give birth to a Son, and she will name Him Immanuel.”

In this Scripture a sign involves the virgin will concerive and give birth to a Son is definitely miraculous. Another example, the sign of the last days is apostasy. Apostacy is the sign of the last days, but apostacy is neither a wonder nor a miracle.

Wonder is in Greek is teras which means something strange; omen; marvel; — which occurs 16 times in the New Testament. Wonder may or may not be a miracle. For example, a black cow eats green grass and produces white milk may be a wonder, certainly not a sign nor miracle.

There are versions of the Bible translation. Some come up with the term “miraculous sign” is a minomer and a confuser.

Acts 2:22. Ye men of Israel, hear these words — Let me charge it upon you, as a most important duty, to pay attention to these remarkable words of the prophet, which I have now repeated in your hearing; and a part of which is this day evidently fulfilled, and the rest shall be fulfilled in their season. Jesus of Nazareth — So I call him, because he was generally known among you by that name, though he was not born there, nor, properly speaking, was a Nazarene; a man approved of God among you — Censured, indeed, and condemned by men, but approved of God, who testified his approbation of his life, doctrine, and of the whole of his proceedings, by the miraculous powers he gave him; a man, marked out by God, as Dr. Hammond translates απο του θεου αποδεδειγμενον, signalized and made remarkable among you that now hear me; for you yourselves are witnesses how remarkable he was rendered by the miracles, wonders, and signs, works above the power of nature, out of its ordinary course, and contrary to it, which God did by him — That is, which he did by that divine power with which he was clothed, and in which God plainly co-operated with him; for no man could do such works, unless God were with him. Jesus is the Messiah, sent by God to save men from their sins. To be saved you must repent of your sins and believe in the Lord Jesus, your God and Savior.

You can do it now.

Among the miracles that God attested Jesus Christ is the Lord of life is through raising the dead.

Jhn 21:25, “But there are also many other things

which Jesus did, which, if they were written in detail, I expect that even the world itself would not contain the books that would be written.”

A.) A widow’s son

Luk 7:11-17, “Soon afterward Jesus went to a city called Nain; and His disciples were going along with Him, accompanied by a large crowd.

Now as He approached the gate of the city, a dead man was being carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow; and a sizeable

crowd from the city was with her.

When the Lord saw her, He felt compassion for her and said to her, “Do not go on weeping.”

And He came up and touched the coffin; and the bearers came to a halt. And He said, “Young man, I say to you, arise!” And the dead man sat up and began to speak. And Jesus gave him back to his mother. Fear gripped them all, and they began

glorifying God, saying, “A great prophet has appeared among us!” and, “God has visited His people!” And this report about Him spread

B.) Jairus’ daughter

Luk 8:40-42, “And as Jesus was returning, the people welcomed Him, for they had all been waiting for Him. And a man named

Jairus came, and he was an official of the synagogue; and he fell at Jesus’ feet, and began urging Him to come to his house; for he had an only daughter, about twelve years old, and she was dying. But as He went, the crowds were pressing against Him.

Luk 8:49-56, “While He was still speaking, someone

came from the house of the synagogue official, saying, “Your daughter has died; do not trouble the Teacher

anymore.” But when Jesus heard this, He responded

to him, “Do not be afraid any longer; only believe, and she will be made well.” When He came to the house, He did not allow anyone to enter with Him except

Peter, John, and James, and the girl’s father and mother. Now they were all weeping and mourning for her; but He said, “Stop weeping, for she has not died, but is asleep.” And they began laughing at Him, knowing that she had died. He, however, took her by the hand and spoke forcefully, saying, “Child, arise!”

And her spirit returned, and she got up immediately; and He ordered that something be given her to eat.

Her parents were amazed; but He instructed them to tell no one what had happened.”

C.) Lazarus

Jhn 11:1-17, “Now a certain man was sick: Lazarus of Bethany, the village of Mary and her sister Martha.

And it was the Mary who anointed the Lord with

ointment, and wiped His feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was sick. (Now Jesus loved

Martha and her sister, and Lazarus.) This He said,

and after this He said to them, “Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep; but I am going so that I may awaken him from sleep.” So Jesus then said to them plainly, “Lazarus died,

And when He had said these things, He cried out with a loud voice, “Lazarus, come out!” Therefore, six

days before the Passover, Jesus came to Bethany where Lazarus was, whom Jesus had raised from the dead. So they made Him a dinner there, and Martha was serving; and Lazarus was one of those reclining at the table with Him.

The large crowd of the Jews then learned that He was there; and they came, not on account of Jesus only, but so that they might also see Lazarus, whom He raised from the dead. But the chief priests planned to put Lazarus to death also, so the people, who were with Him when He called Lazarus out of the tomb and raised him from the dead, continued to testify about Him.”

Jhn 11:17-44, “So when Jesus came, He found that he had already been in the tomb four days. Now Bethany

was near Jerusalem, about fifteen stadia away;

and many of the Jews had come to Martha and Mary, to console them about their brother. So then Martha,

when she heard that Jesus was coming, went to

meet Him, but Mary stayed in the house. Martha then

said to Jesus, “Lord, if You had been here, my brother would not have died. Even now I know that whatever You ask of God, God will give You.”

Jesus said to her, “Your brother will rise from the dead.” Martha said to Him, “I know that he will rise in the resurrection on the last day.” Jesus said to her, “I AM the Resurrection and the Life; the one who believes in Me will live, even if he dies, and

everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die. Do you believe this?”

She said to Him, “Yes, Lord; I have come to believe

that You are the Christ, the Son of God, and He who comes into the world.”

When she had said this, she left and called Mary her sister, saying secretly, “The Teacher is here and is calling for you.” And when she heard this, she got up quickly and came to Him. Now Jesus had

not yet come into the village, but was still at the place where Martha met Him. Then the Jews who

were with her in the house and were consoling her, when they saw that Mary had gotten up quickly and left, they followed her, thinking that she was going to the tomb to weep there. So when Mary came to the place where Jesus was, she saw Him and fell at His feet, saying to Him, “Lord, if You had been here, my brother would not have died.” Therefore when Jesus

saw her weeping, and the Jews who came with her also weeping, He was deeply moved in spirit

and was troubled, and He said, “Where have you laid him?” They said to Him, “Lord, come and see.” Jesus wept. So the Jews were saying, “See how He loved him!” But some of them said, “Could this Man, who opened the eyes of the man who was blind, not have also kept this man from dying?” So Jesus, again being deeply moved within, came to the tomb. Now it was a cave, and a stone was lying against it.

Jesus said, “Remove the stone.” Martha, the sister of the deceased, said to Him, “Lord, by this time there will be a stench, for he has been dead four days.”

Jesus said to her, “Did I not say to you that if you believe, you will see the glory of God?”

So they removed the stone. And Jesus raised His eyes, and said, “Father, I thank You that You have heard Me.

“But I knew that You always hear Me; nevertheless, because of the people standing around I said it, so

that they may believe that You sent Me.”

And when He had said these things, He cried out with a loud voice, “Lazarus, come out!” Out came the man who had died, bound hand and foot with wrappings, and his face was wrapped around with a cloth. Jesus said to them, “Unbind him, and let him go.”

Further, it is written, Psa 104:4, “He makes the winds

His messengers, flaming fire His ministers.”

We do not know anything how God uses typhoon, hurricane and tornado to punish the wicked.

The important message of God is that He sent Jesus Christ, His only Son, from Heaven to earth in order to save mankind from the eternal suffering in Hell. You must not neglect so great a salvation. Now is the time to repent of your sins and believe in the Lord Jesus the great God and Savior.
