THE VIRGIN BIRTH

The virgin birth is not the birth of a virgin.

This article has been written to show you that the birth of Jesus Christ was not like other people, because it was supernatural. It is not a natural thing that a virgin gives birth to a child. It is actually impossible for a virgin to become pregnant. The virgin Mary knew it, every woman and man should know itThe virgin Mary to have a child was a supernatural thing beyond human ability or capability.

Humans can do only the natural, never the supernatural. For God nothing is impossible, for God controls the natural as well as the supernatural. However, this is one and only event in history, and it shall not repeat again.

The virgin birth is not the birth of a virgin or her so-called immaculate

conception. Mary was not perfectly sinless as a certain religion claimed. The Virgin Birth refers only to the birth of Jesus Christ by Virgin Mary, conceived by the Holy Spirit, without a human father. The Virgin Birth of Jesus Christ was foretold by the prophet, “Therefore, the Lord Himself shall give you a sign: Look, a virgin will conceive and bear a son and call His name Emmanuel.”

(Isa 7:14) Sign in Hebrew is ‘owth  which means a portent of good omen, a miraculous sign; – it occurs about 79 times in the Old Testament.

Emmanuel in Hebrew is    `Immanuw’el    which means “God with us” or

with us is God” – it occurs only 2 times in the Old Testament. This is the definition of Incarnation; God came to be with men. “Now all this took place so that what was spoken by the Lord through the prophet might be fulfilled: Look, a virgin will be with child and bear a son, and they will call His name Emmanuel, which means God with us.” (Mat 1:22-23 ) It is important to know that prophecy is what the Lord spoke through His prophet. So the birth of Jesus Christ was the fulfillment of Biblical prophecy. Virgin in Greek is    parthenos   which means a marriageable maiden, an unmarried girl who has never had sexual intercourse with a man; – it occurs 14 times in the New Testament. A virgin by definition is not only an unmarried young woman; a virgin is a young woman who has never had sexual intercourse with man. A virgin is definitely an unmarried woman, but an unmarried woman may not be a virgin. In some countries, unmarried young women are still virgins; in many other societies, many of them are no longer virgins. In some secular society, boys and girls have sex as young as 10 years old. Another example, one third of all births in America are illegitimate. Mary was a virgin when she conceived Jesus by the Holy Spirit and it took place just as God spoke through His prophet.

There is no nation on earth which has more deviant, demonic, diabolical, deceitful, deceptive, dirty and devilish claims, doctrines, beliefs, rumors, ideologies, and lies than the United States of America. Currently there were some women who claimed they were virgins and they got pregnant without having sexual intercourse with men.

Apparently these women claimed to be like virgin Mary. The Bible makes it clear liars will go to Hell. It is not worthwhile to dwell on liars of infinite varieties. Before the virgin birth of Jesus Christ the Son of God through the virgin Mary, it never happened before. After the virgin birth of Christ, it never happened after and will never happen again. The Roman Catholic Church teaches a false doctrine called Virgin Mary in perpetuity is self-defeating. That was not true. According to the Bible, after the birth of Jesus, Mary had sex with Joseph and bore several children.

Mat 13:55-56, “Is not this the carpenter’s son? Is not His mother

called Mary, and His brothers, James and Joseph and Simon and Judas? And His sisters, are they not all with us? Where then did this Man  get  all these things?”

Mar 6:3  “Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, and brother of

James and Joses and Judas and Simon? Are not His sisters here with

us? And they took offense at Him.” The Bible mentions the names of

Mary’s other four sons, namely James, Joseph, Simon and Judas. Mary

also bore at least two daughters although their names were not

mentioned. Once I told a Filipino woman (a Catholic) who worked at the

same place with me that after Jesus was born, Mary lived a normal life

with her husband Joseph and had at least 6 children; and so the Catholic teaching was false and she was surprised. In the history of mankind, there was only one virgin Mary who gave birth to Jesus Christ the Son of God. There had never been before, it had never been after, and it will never happen again.

The virgin birth of Jesus Christ signifies two cardinal doctrines of

Christianity namely the humanity and divinity of Jesus Christ. The

Humanity of Christ means He was sinless, the Righteous, the Perfect

Man – God manifested in human form as Man. The   Divinity of Christ

means Jesus Christ existed before Abraham was, before the universe

was, before time and space for Jesus Christ is the Eternal Father who

created the universe. Jesus Christ was truly God and truly Man, perfect

God and perfect Man.

Luk 2:10-11,“But the angel said to them: Do not be afraid; for behold,

I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people; for

today in the city of David there has been born for you the Savior, who is Christ the Lord.” This was fulfilled the prophecy of  Isa 9:6 “For a

Child will be born to us, a Son will be given to us; and the government

will rest on His shoulders; and His name will be called  Wonderful,

Counselor Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace. ”

1.  Before they came together.

“Now the birth of Jesus Christ happened like this: When His mother

Mary was engaged to be married to Joseph,   before they came together,   she was found to be with child by the Holy Spirit.” (Mat 1:18) To come together in Greek is  synerchomai  which means to cohabit conjugally, come together in the sense of sexual union; – it occurs about 32 times in the New Testament. The historical fact was that Mary became pregnant  –  before  she and Joseph cohabited as husband and wife.

Luk 1:17, “It is he who will go as a forerunner before Him in the spirit and power of Elijah, TO TURN THE HEARTS OF THE FATHERS BACK TO THE CHILDREN, and the disobedient to the attitude of the righteous, so as to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.”

John the Baptist was a forerunner before Jesus to make ready a people

prepared for the Lord.

2.  How can this be?

Mary was an intelligent woman, she raised the question how can a virgin without sex to be found with child?

When the angel Gabriel brought the news to Mary, she was troubled and asked: “How can this be since I am still a virgin?” (Luk 1:34) Virgin in Greek is parthenos  which means an unmarried girl, a maiden who has not known a man in the sexual sense; – it occurs about 14 times in the New Testament.  Even Mary did not believe a virgin could be pregnant without sexual intercourse with a man. To her this was impossible. How can this be? A pure virgin like Mary expressed her deepest concern and feelings. One thing was sure: Mary was still a virgin when Jesus was conceived in her womb and she did not have sex with a man or any man.

Of course the explanation of the angel put her fears to rest.   What is

impossible with nature is possible with the God of nature.

3.  Joseph was thinking to divorce Mary privately.

Joseph knew that he did not have sex with Mary, and so how did Mary

become pregnant. When Joseph saw Mary was pregnant, he was thinking to divorce her privately because he did not want to publicly shame her. He thought she had sex with another man. One thing was clear: Joseph did not have sex with Mary, that was why he wanted to divorce her privately. However, an angel of the Lord explained to Joseph that the pregnancy of Mary was conceived by the Holy Spirit. See Mat 1:18-24

“Joseph did not have sex with her until she gave birth to her firstborn

son; and he called His name JESUS.” (Mat1:25) Jesus in Greek isIēsous  which means “Jehovah is salvation”, the Savior of mankind; – it occurs about 975 times in the New Testament. Jesus is Yĕhowshuwa`  in Hebrew which means Jehovah is salvation or Savior; – it occurs about 218 times in the Old Testament.

4.  Conceived by the Holy Spirit.

How could a virgin be pregnant without sex with a man? The birth of

Jesus Christ was a supernatural act. The angel explained to Joseph,

“… for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit.” (Mat 1:20 )

To conceive in Greek is gennaō  which means to beget, procreate, to be

born, become the father of; – it occurs about 97 times in the New

Testament. Angel Gabriel explained to Mary, “The Holy Spirit will come

upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you.” (Luk

1:35) To come upon in Greek is  eperchomai  which means to supervene, influence, approach, and overtake; – it occurs about 10 times in the New Testament. The fact that the Holy Spirit supervened in the conception of Jesus by virgin Mary indicates it was not the natural process of event; it was something supernatural in nature. The Bible does not explain how the Holy Spirit influenced the conception of Jesus in the womb of a virgin.

To overshadow in Greek is    episkiazo     which means to cover with

preternatural influence or exert with creative energy; – it occurs only 5

times in the New Testament. The conception of Jesus is beyond scientific explanation, just as God is beyond scientific explanation. The most intelligent man on earth cannot understand how the Holy Spirit came upon Mary to make her pregnant. The wisest man under the sun cannot understand how the power of the Most High overshadowed Mary. One thing is certain: The conception of Jesus Christ was holy and immaculate because it was not the natural result of sexual union between a man and a woman tainted by sin. The conception of Jesus was holy not because Mary was immaculate, but because it was conceived by the Holy Spirit.

The conception of Jesus was sinless. The birth of Jesus Christ was holy because He was born without sin. This never happened in history before and will never happen again. Joseph did not have sex with Mary until Jesus was born; therefore Jesus was not a son of Joseph. When Jesus was twelve years old, He said to Joseph and Mary: “Why did you look for Me?” Don’t you know that I must be about My Father’s business?” (Luk 2:49) As a matter of fact, Jesus had a human mother without a human father. No other human being was ever in such a unique situation. Jesus is the only begotten Son of God.

See Jhn 3:16. “And the Word became flesh and lived among us, (and we saw His glory, as the glory of the only begotten of the Father), full of grace and truth.” (Jhn 1:14) Word in Greek is logos which means

utterance, speech, meaning, reason, the Divine Expression – it occurs

about. Flesh in Greek is  sarx which means the body (as opposed to the soul or spirit), carnal existence, human nature, the physical nature of man; – it occurs about 151 times in the New Testament. To become in Greek is ginomai  which means to cause to be, to come into being, to come into existence; – it occurs about 678 times in the New Testament.

This Scripture succinctly explains the meaning of Incarnation, that is,

God became Man. God became Man in the body of the person Jesus

Christ; Jesus Christ did not become God, for Jesus Christ was and is

God.

Since Jesus Christ was God Incarnate, was Mary the mother of God?

Absolutely not! The question implies ignorance about God. God does

not and could not have a mother. A God who had a mother

chronologically cannot be God. Mary has been referred to in the Bible as “the mother of my Lord” (Luk 1:43), “Jesus’ mother” (Jhn 2:1), and “the mother of Jesus” (Act 1:14); but never as “the mother of God.” Why is there such a distinction? Here are some fundamental reasons:

(A.    Blessed among women.

“And the angel came to her and said to her: Hail, you who are highly

favored, the Lord is with you; blessed are you among women.”

(Luk 1:28) Highly favored in Greek is charitoō  which means to be

endowed with special honor, to be treated graciously, to be honored with blessings; – it occurs only twice in the New Testament. Although Mary was highly favored in the sight of God and blessed among women, this does not mean that Mary was divine or sinless. Blessed in Greek is eulogeō which means to invoke blessings; to be praised; to be consecrated; to make happy; to bestow blessings on; to be favored of God; to speak well of; to invoke a benediction upon; venerated; beatified; enjoying the bliss of Heaven; – which occurs 44 times in the New Testament. Mary was not the mother of God as Roman Catholic Church teaches. God does not have a mother. God cannot have a motherIf God has a mother, then he is not God. The Word became flesh through the physical instrument of Mary by the power of the Holy Spirit. The power of the Holy Spirit overshadowed Mary so that the conception of Jesus Christ was holy and not tainted by sin. Mary was the mother of Jesus refers to His humanity only, for   God could not have a mother. Before Mary was, Jesus Christ is. God by definition is the Self-Existent Eternal Being. If God had a mother, than the mother of God existed before God. No one existed before God, from eternity to eternity God is ONE and ONLY.

The immaculate conception of the blessed Virgin Mary does not mean

the birth or conception of Mary was sinless by her parents. It means only the conception of Jesus by Virgin Mary was sinless, because it was solely conceived by the Holy Spirit. The conception of Jesus was

preserved free from all stain of original sin, or any sin. Mary

was a sinner just like other man and woman, not free from Original Sin

or personal sin. Christians do not believe Mary was free from all sins,

Christians believe the conception of Jesus was immaculate or free from all sins.

(B.  The maid of the Lord.

“And Mary said: Look, the maid of the Lord…” (Luk 1:38) Maid in Greek

is doulē which means a female slave (involuntarily or voluntarily),

handmaid or bondmaid; it occurs only 3 times in the New Testament.

For this reason Mary knew she was the maid of the Lord, just an

instrument or vessel of God, certainly not the Mother of God. If Mary was the maid of the Lord, how could she be the mother of God? No mother would call herself the maid of her son. Mary knew perfectly the divine origin of her Son Jesus.

(C.  My spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior.

“And Mary said: My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit has rejoiced

in God my Savior.”

(Luk 1:46-47) To magnify in Greek is megalynō  which means to make or declare great, to esteem or extol highly; – it occurs 8 times in the New Testament. To rejoice in Greek is agalliaō  which means to leap much for joy, exult exceedingly, to be overjoyed; – it occurs 11 times in the New Testament. Savior in Greek is sōtēr which means a deliverer, preserver; – it occurs 24 times in the New Testament. Interestingly, the word “Savior” used by Mary is the same word in the original language used by the angel in  Luk 2:11 in the original language referring to Christ the Lord.

Although Mary was very special and blessed, but she needed the Savior just like any other human being. A person who needs the Savior must be a sinner. Jesus Christ the Son of God is the Savior of the world. If God was Mary’s Savior, how then could she be the mother of God? A certain religion magnifies Mary; the true religion magnifies the Lord Jesus. Those who think Mary was the mother of Jesus, and so she is more important than Jesus do not understand the Word of God and do not know Jesus Christ. God became Man in the person of Jesus Christ, and Jesus Christ was conceived by the Holy Spirit using the womb of virgin Mary. To say Mary was the mother of Jesus is correct, to say Mary is the mother of God is absolutely wrong; for God does not and could not have a mother.  But  Mary was smarter than I am, Mary knew the difference between soul and spirit. Mary’s soul magnified the Lord, and her spirit rejoiced in God her Savior. Frankly, both my soul and spirit magnify and rejoice in God my Savior. Only I do not know how my soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior.

5.  The same is My brother, sister, and mother.

“For whoever does the will of My Father who is in Heaven, the same is

My brother, sister, and mother.”  (Mat 12:50

Jesus Christ puts obedience to the will of God as the basis of spiritual

relationship. Jesus Christ makes it clear that a woman who does the will of God is the same like His sister or mother! Notice Christ did not say father. There is only one Father who is in Heaven.  Roman Catholics commit blasphemy by calling the pope, “Holy Father.” On the cross Jesus told Mary and John that they were mother and son.

Jhn 19:26-27,  “When Jesus then saw His mother, and the disciple whom He loved standing nearby, He said to His mother, “Woman, behold, your son!” Then He said to the disciple, “Behold, your mother!” From that hour the disciple took her into his own household.”

The disciple whom Jesus loved was John. Jesus said to John, Behold

your mother Mary. So John took Mary into his own household.  The Lord Jesus committed His mother to be taken care by His beloved disciple John.

6.  Mary was NOT a virgin in perpetuity.

A certain religion teaches that Mary is a virgin in perpetuity. However,

the Bible teaches that Mary was a virgin before the birth of Jesus. After

the birth of Jesus, Joseph had sexual relations with Mary as husband

and wife. As a result of the union, Joseph and Mary had several children.

“Isn’t this the carpenter’s son? Is not His mother called Mary? And His

brothers, James, Joses, Simon and Judas? And His sisters, are they not all with us?…”

(Mat 13:55-56) No, Jesus was not the carpenter’s son, for the carpenter

knew it, and Mary knew it. When the author cited the Scripture to a

Catholic woman, she was so surprised to learn the first time that Mary

bore several children after Jesus. Clearly, a woman who had sexual

relations with her husband and bore several sons and daughters could

not remain a virgin in perpetuity. The absurdity of such a doctrine by a

certain religion that Mary is the perpetual virgin is self-evident.

7. Mary is NOT mediator between God and men.

A certain religion teaches falsely that Mary is the mediator between God and men. From the Biblical point of view, this is a damnable heresy. A heresy is doctrinal departure from the revealed truth. Since Mary was a sinner and a human and needed the Savior, she could not be the mediator between God and men. The Bible unmistakably teaches that Jesus Christ is the only Mediator between God and men. “For there is one God, and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus; who gave Himself as a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.” (1 Tim 2:5-6

Mediator in Greek is  mesitēs which means a go-between, middle man,

intermediary, reconciler or intercessor, arbitrator, one who intervenes

between two; – it occurs 6 times in the New Testament. It is un-Scriptural to pray to Mary, and to worship Mary is committing idolatry. The fact that Jesus was born of the Virgin Mary does not promote Mary to a divine status. Although Mary was the mother of our Lord, Mary does not have any power OR influence to confer blessings on anyone. It is significant to know that after Jesus’ Ascension, Mary was mentioned only once in the Bible.

Act 1:14,“These all with one mind were continually devoting

themselves to prayer, along with the women, and Mary the mother of

Jesus, and with His brothers.”

Mary the mother of Jesus and His brothers and all other disciples and

the women were with one mind continually devoting themselves to

prayer. The virgin birth of Jesus Christ is indicative of the holy conception of Jesus by the Holy Spirit, not the immaculate conception of Mary. The virgin birth of Jesus Christ is the good news that God became Man in order to save sinners from eternal death in hell. When Christ was born, hope was born because Christ brings hope to the world. Jesus Christ is the Savior of the world. God offers eternal life to any ones who repent of their sins and believe in Jesus Christ the Son of God.

A Catholic priest wrote, “If Christmas is the season opener, Easter is the Super Bowl.” God does not recognize the Super Bowl; Super Bowl is nothing to God.  THE teaching of Roman Catholic Church to pray to Mary is not only blasphemous, it fools one billion people!

Rom 1:4,  “Who was declared the Son of God with power by the

resurrection from the dead, according to the Spirit of holiness, Jesus

Christ our Lord.” The resurrection of Jesus does prove His divinity. It is

not the day that matters, not the church’s liturgical calendar that matters; it is the Word of God that matters. It is silly to argue whether Easter is more important than Christmas or vice versa.

Rom 14:5-6, “One person regards one day above another, another

regards every day alike   Each person must be fully convinced in his

own mind. He who observes the day, observes it for the Lord, and he

who eats, does so for the Lord, for he gives thanks to God; and he who

eats not, for the Lord he does not eat, and gives thanks to God.”

Gal 4:10-11, “You observe days and months and seasons and years.

I fear for you, lest I have labored over you in vain.” The Roman Catholic

Church has many man-made doctrines and traditions of men which are

not in the Bible. The Bible never says the Christmas season lasts 12 days or the Easter season lasts 50 days.

What Catholic theologians and scholars say are unimportant. The

Gospel of John does not mention the birth of Jesus because the Gospel presents Jesus as the Word, and the Word was God. God certainly did not have a birth day, for God is Self-Existent and eternal, from everlasting to everlasting. Catholics are wrong to believe that Mary remained a virgin her entire life. Mary was a virgin because Jesus was conceived by the Holy Spirit. Certainly Jesus was not the carpenter’s son; Jesus was the Son of God.

Mat 1:18, “Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: when His

mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together

she was found to be with child by the Holy Spirit.” Jesus was conceived before Joseph and Mary came together (had sex). How could Mary remained a virgin in perpetuity when she and Joseph came together and produced sons and daughters?

Mat 13:55-56, “Is not this the carpenter’s son? Is not His mother called

Mary, and His brothers, James and Joseph and Simon and Judas? And

His sisters, are they not all with us? Where then did this man get all

these things?”

Mar 3:31, “Then His mother and His brothers arrived, and standing

outside they sent word   to Him and called Him.” The Bible does not say how many children Mary had with Joseph, we are told they had 4 sons and daughters (names were not provided), not knowing how many daughters and without giving names of their daughters. There is no Christmas Mass, midnight or not. Mass was a Catholic invention,

contrary to the Bible. The sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross for

sinners was complete once and for all, it is not going to be repeated or

reenacted. The Bible teaches about the Lord’s Supper, to remember the

death of Jesus Christ until Jesus Christ returns.

This wonderful Savior Jesus Christ was God who

became Man, born of a virgin, conceived by the Holy Spirit, who died for our sins, rose again to justify all who believe in Him, ascended to the highest Heavens, and He is coming again to judge the world and reign with the saints forever and ever in the Kingdom of Heaven.

Mary was not the Savior. It is wrong to pray to or

worship Mary who was only a blessed woman, not

God. There is no other savior except the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God.

Would you accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and

Savior? No matter who you are, and no matter where you are, would you do it now?
